Contracts

Please feel free to look over our contract/guarantee. We do screen all prospective buyers so that we only permit our pups to be adopted into caring responsible, safe families/homes in which they are seeking a wonderful companion they are looking forward to sharing the next 15-20 years with. If you are looking for a particular color or sex, it may take longer to meet your request. Deposits of 500.00 are required in advance to reserve a pup and esp. to have pick of the litter. Deposits will be refunded in full if we are unable to provide you with a dog that fits your preference within 1 year of your deposit. Please note that show criteria do not apply to pet stock (i.e. bite, pigmentation, size, etc.). Companion quality pups are very healthy but may not meet the full FCI guidelines cosmetically. Please feel free to inquire for more information via email.

Sold to ___________________________________ from CotonTails (a.k.a. Peters' Coton Tails)on __________________ is a pure bred registerable coton de Tulear companion/show quality male/female pup. This pup is (description)_______________________ and will be registered as _____________________________. The sire of this pup is________________________/reg#______________________ and the dam of this pup is___________________________/reg.#_____________________________. This pup's born on ________________________. Its microchip number is_________________________.

Registration papers will be forwarded to the owners as soon as they are available with the exception of companion quality puppies. The papers for the companion puppies will be forwarded once the owner shows CotonTails vet. documentation that the pup has been neutered or spay (an e-mail from your vet is sufficient). In the case of companion puppies, the reproductive sterilization of the pup at 6 months of age is imperative, part of the contract and the new owners responsibility. Should the owners feel their pup has developed into a show quality dog and wish to breed or show this dog, they must contact CotonTails for an assessment of the pup and, should the pup be breedable/show quality, the owners must pay the difference between a show quality pup and a companion quality pup and the registration papers will be provided.

Should a companion quality dog owner choose to breed his dog without having their dog assessed and paying the difference, the owner agrees that the dog becomes the immediate property of CotonTails, must be returned immediately (or will be apprehended) and, the owner agrees they will pay $10,000.00 in damages to CotonTails as well as all assoc. expenses and without legal recourse.

The pup being purchased has received its first set of vaccinations, is microchipped, has its dewclaws removed, is de-wormed, and has been checked by our vet to be healthy. We encourage the new owners to contact a vet of their choice prior to the arrival of their pup to arrange an appointment within 72 hours of the pup's arrival to check over their pup and establish contact with a vet. Although you will likely only be seeing the vet annually for checkups and vaccinations, its always good to have a baseline and a vet who knows your pup. Please note that we do not guarantee pups for accident, injury or illness sustained or acquired in their new owner's possession. Should your vet feel that the pup is not healthy, you must contact me immediately (phone 403-770-6128). The pup should then be examined by a second independent vet and, if again found to be unhealthy, contact me again and you must arrange to transport the pup back to CotonTails. The puppy will be replaced as soon as another of the same quality is available within one year.

Owners of our coton de Tulear pups agree to always provide a high quality diet, comfortable, clean and adequate living space, to keep their dog groomed and clean, provide love and attention and to attend promptly to any needs the dogs may have. Should the dog be neglected in any way, the owner of the dog must return the dog (and all registration papers and health documents)without charge to CotonTails and I will assist you with rehoming the dog or reassume ownership myself should the dog require rehabilitation in any way.

Our pups are guaranteed to be free of all debilitating hereditary diseases until they are two years old.

Show Quality Puppies:

The owner agrees to never sell their pups (or ensure that pups that result from a breeding with their male) to dealers or pet stores. No dogs may be disposed of or euthanized without clear necessity nor can the owner surrender the dog to a pound, shelter, or S.P.C.A.. They must seek assistance and advice from fellow coton breeders and clubs.

Should a dog owner wish to sell their dog to another person in full or shared ownership, they must first contact CotonTails as I retain first right of refusal (for the original price of the dog) and must approve the sale (It must be to a responsible home in which the dog will have all its needs met.).

The buyer of female pups agrees to not breed the dog until she is on or past her second heat, ideally not until her third heat and only if she is deemed to be full grown, greater than 1 year old, and in excellent health by a vet.

The buyer agrees to not breed any male dog before he is 1 year of age and must be in excellent health as well.

Should an owner of a CotonTails female dog utilize the services of a stud from outside their kennel, the dog must be certified clear of brucellosis prior to the breeding. Owners also agree to have their dogs examined by their vet prior to breeding for health including hips, knees and elbows. Breeders agree to have all their breeding dogs examined by a certified veterinarian ophthalmologist for eye irregularities/diseases annually and, when two years old must have its hips, knees, and elbows examined radiographically for health of the joints. A thyroid screen is also recommended.

All owners agree to never breed their dogs to a dog that is unregistered or not a registered coton de Tulear of obvious show quality. Owners must keep a detailed record of all heats, breedings, pups, health concerns during the perinatal period. All litters must be registered with the Canine Federation of Canada or the Canadian Kennel Club whichever becomes the main registering body for the coton de Tulear in a timely manner.

Male puppy owners agree to provide CotonTails with one free stud service in the future at a mutually agreed time.

Should a show/breeding quality puppy not remain so (e.g. develop disqualifying FCI characteristics through uneven growth of permanent teeth, incomplete pigmentation, etc.), the owner should contact CotonTails for a refund of the difference between show quality and companion quality at the time they purchased their dog. The dog cannot have been bred prior and must then be surgically sterilized prior to a partial refund being issued.

Owners of dogs used for breeding promise to be diligent about observing for and following their offspring for hereditary diseases. Should any present, the breeder agrees to remove the animal from any breeding program and will notify all owners of previous offspring of the hereditary disease. The owner must keep in contact with the owners of their offspring to monitor for any hereditary disease, its type and severity, and agrees to share this information with their parent club and with CotonTails of course.

We strongly encourage all show/breeding quality owners to show their dogs in conformation whenever possible and convenient. We encourage participation in obedience, agility and pet therapy.

Our goal is to protect the health and integrity of the coton de Tulear breed as well as sharing the loving companionship of these rare, wonderful dogs with responsible, loving dog owners.

Companion Quality Puppies:

Puppies may (at the discretion of CotonTails) be sold as companion quality initially and, then be reassessed at 5-6 months by CotonTails for show/breeding quality prior to sterilization. These owners must make their intentions clear when they purchase the pup. If the pup is approved as show/breeding quality at 5-6 months of age and CotonTails agrees to permit this dog to be used for show and breeding purposes, the owners must pay the price difference between show and companion quality. The pup would then be covered by the show quality puppy provisions.

We encourage all companion quality owners to participate in obedience, agility and pet therapy with their dogs.
